We delivered a few neighbor Christmas gifts tonight as a family.
In addition to dropping off sparkling juice and peanut butter popcorn, we used this time to hold our Official 2012 Dixon Christmas Reindeer Count.
(sounds exciting doesn't it)
It's tradition...even though I'm not sure how it came about.
Here are the rules.
The reindeer must be displayed in someones yard or roof. No window deer from the inside.
It must be lit up. (pre-lit or spotlight both count)
Must be a deer. No penguins, polar bears, snowmen or dolphins...all which we saw tonight.
This year's number?
Drum roll please...........
103
We were only out an hour and thirty minutes.
Part of this time was delivering gifts and pit-stopping at Grandma and Grandpa Dixon's house.
We didn't even hit the jackpot neighborhood we found last year. (It was out of the way and it was already 8pm.)
Next year we will do better and start earlier.
Maybe we'll even try again this year if we have a night free.
Our goal was 100. The kids were ecstatic and cheered wildly in the car when we hit that magic number. The extra three were just a bonus!
Steve said because we hit our goal...we will have to buy a deer for our yard next year.
The kids cheered even louder.
I did not.
Deer are great and all, but they have to be stored the other 11 months out of the year.
I think we should just stick to counting other people's Christmas clutter.
