Wrap up of last week. Get ready for picture overload!
Teenage boys are hilarious.
Hilarious I tell you.
Andrew and his friends, Micheal and Connor, had a project to finish concerning Edgar Allan Poe's poem The Raven. They chose to make a movie trailer with I Movie.
It was crazy funny and included Andrew as the crow coming through my mom's office window.
I think they most likely got an A on this project…Andrew said his English teacher laughed out loud. Who wouldn't?
Saylor is writing her name in preschool. I think these little letter scratches are priceless.
Along with writing more, she is catching onto swimming too. Her confidence has grown in bounds and is much more comfortable in the water. Hurray for Saylor!
(I think it was the pink goggles…they must hold super powers.)
A few weeks ago Colby had his PE report due. He did the report on extreme pogo sticking.
(I can't keep a straight face while typing the words extreme pogo sticking.) He even took his pogo stick into class and gave a demonstration of (not so) extreme pogo sticking.
He brought home his grad this week, and as you can tell by the grade of A++ on the bottom of his paper, he did well.
Yep, I let my son wear these slippers to the swim pool last week. Why you may ask?
Because, these pink slippers make Grady happy. He wears them all day long. He loves them.
And Grady being number five, I really don't care…whatever floats his boat.
(Even more evidence that number five has put me over the edge in a massive way. Pink slippers would have never been allowed in public with my other kids.)
Friday morning Carter had an endocrinologist appointment in Idaho Falls. It was a good, but frustrating appointment. Because of swimming, Carter is having lots of infusion set failures and his blood sugars are up. Its maddening to see his numbers rise when I'm honestly doing all I can.
I talked to his doctor about getting a continuous glucose monitor, but also because of swimming, the doctor is not sure Carter would be a good candidate due to sight failures brought on by water exposure.
Lastly, I brought up the scary words of growth hormone injections for Carter and his doctor is having Carter's hormone levels tested. Carter is in the 5th percentile…5th.
I'm just looking into the idea of growth hormone, but haven't made any decisions yet.
After Carter's appointment we went out to lunch and did a little shopping (looking) around Idaho Falls.
Lego's are cool. 'Nuff said.
At 4 pm Friday afternoon the Spook Splash swim meet in Idaho Falls started.
And can I just say it was madness!!!!
Swim meets are organized crowded chaos…so you know, my favorite places to be.
On top of everything, Carters numbers were Oh. So. Bad.
He was coming down with something (maybe a virus, maybe a growth spurt, maybe it was all adrenaline form being nervous) and I could not for the life of me keep his number even under 200.
He felt awful most of the time poor kid.
Colby's first race he was so nervous he asked to go back to the hotel.
But he got up on those blocks and swam like a fish.
"These are my recreation clothes."
Couldn't help taking this picture of the boys watching from the gallery.
Carter's stance was cracking me up!
Carter's first race Friday night (first race of first meet ever) was the 100 IM.
He forgot to put his goggles down and dove in without them. Poor kid was so dang nervous!
But, he swam that entire 100 meters without goggles and came out of the pool with the best attitude ever.
I admire Carter for his optimism and self mastery.
He was disqualified for his breast stroke kick…but we don't care! It's all about working to get better!
Colby was entered in a relay race Friday night with three other darling eight year old swimmers.
They took first place in the 100 freestyle relay.
It was the best!
And yes…I promise I do let Colby eat even though he looks anorexic.
We didn't get to the hotel until 10 pm. The kids were beat and went right to sleep.
Saturday morning was like Disney Land. The breakfast was amazing!
(We obviously don't stay in hotels much.)
The pool called their names right after breakfast. I'm talking 8 am people.
Hot tubs are hot.
Breakfast was open until 10 so the kids went for another round.
And went back to the pool with their swim team buddies.
I really wasn't exaggerating about the Disney Land experience.
We really need to get out more.
Weight rooms are cool.
And make you feel buff and stuff.
Saturday the meet started at noon.
Carter was in three events and Colby was in four.
Carter on the blocks for 50 Fly.
He got a great time and swam his heart out.
I love watching him butterfly.
Start of the 50 Back.
He was disqualified for his flip turn…he pulled right before turning. It's good to know what he needs to work on.
Colby swam the 25 Fly, 25 Back and 50 Free.
He was disqualified for his butterfly arms not coming out of the water all the way, and in the back stroke for touching the lane line. All things to learn to work on.
His 50 Free was great.
I'm so proud of both my boys.
Carters last race was to be the 200 Free.
He was nervous but ready to swim it. Unfortunately, his blood sugar spiked to over 350. I think I may have sworn in my head (or out loud). Carter started to tear up when I told him I was going to let him scratch. There is no way he should be swimming when he feels that crappy.
And diabetically his whole weekend was crappy. Steve and I had his basal rate increased almost 100% the rest of Saturday and Sunday. Only this morning did he level out and come back down with normal amounts of insulin.
It was a bad weekend to have his numbers out of whack and a few times I wanted to cry myself.
But…taking Carter's amazing attitude to heart, we will just try harder next time.
(I just got an email this morning announcing another swim meet in Boise in November. I think we might not tell the boys and just wait till the one in Twin in January. I really need a break!)
