Luau

Susan graciously treated the rest of us girls to a Luau one night in Maui.
(Picture out of order as this was taken on our way out.)

The fun started right away as each of us was handed a delicious drink and was presented with a flower for our left ear and a beautiful lei.  The lei smelled so wonderful!

The Luau was right on the ocean and the view was wonderful…as always.

The grounds.

Tiki picture for Carter.
That kid has been obsessed lately!

Susan and Megan

Deanna and I

The four of us.
Our seats were on the front row and we had pillows to sit on. It was really fun and different.
Thanks Susan!!

Pre-dinner entertainment.

Open bar…only virgin drinks for us please!

Delicious food!

We ate our little hearts out!

There was a HUGE spotlight right behind the stage…it was murder for decent pictures.

…kind of glad my teenage son wasn't with me.  Lots of skimpy outfits.

Best picture of the night!
We were waiting for the show to start and we were all texting and sending pictures to our family.

Dangerous places I went

I use the term dangerous pretty loosely, but for me a big chicken liver, anything is dangerous.   Heck, I think Walmart is dangerous about 22 hours of the day.
But I digress…

One afternoon us girly-girls decided to try out our adventurous sides and went to discover the Nakalele Blowhole.  Unfortunately, we took the wrong trail head and ended up finding our own way.
In the above picture I'm pointing to where we climbed down from…instead of taking the easier trail.

The tide was low and therefore the blowhole was a "little" disappointing.
But we made it there and that was accomplishment enough.

The four of us with the heart shaped rock.

This picture was for my children.
It's proof that I did indeed do something "dangerous".
Please excuse the red sweaty face…it was hot climbing back out and I'm totally out of shape.

Our next dangerous spot was the Olivine pools.
On the tour app we listened to in the car, we were highly discouraged from climbing down and swimming in these pools because of the risk of waves sweeping us out to open ocean.
By the looks of it, many other people weren't scared either.

Yep…it was cold in those pools!
But I will say, the sound of the waves crashing into the rocks just behind us was alarming.  I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere near these pools if the tide was high with high surf.

Token dangerous picture for my kids.

Wednesday morning we woke up and drove to the Haleakala Crater.
It was at about 10,000 ft and the road up was narrow with switchbacks.  The crater itself wasn't dangerous, but I venture to say the drive was.
Poor Susan got a little car/elevation sickness on the way up that plagued her the rest of the day.  Going up 10,000 ft in 20 minutes or so doesn't always feel so great.

Me at 10,000 ft.
It was cold and a little windy.
Brrrr….

Thursday after the snorkeling trip we drove up to the Iao Needle.
Not much danger involved here, but having a conversation with four women about a famous phallic symbol and what that means…now that is a dangerous conversation.  (wink wink)

Sunset right down from our Condo.
It's dangerous how addicting this place could become for me.
I honestly can't wait to go back to Hawaii!

The Boat

One of my most favorites days in Maui was Thursday, the day we went to Molokini.
We reserved spots on a catamaran that took us out to the small snorkeling island.
The boat was spacious, not crowded and the crew was super gracious.
I felt like I was living in another world.  Add that to the fact that it was 80 degrees in January and at home my family was dealing with snow…totally living in another world.

Pulling into the island.

View from the water.
Andrew received a water proof camera for Christmas and was kind enough to let me take it on my trip.

One of many underwater pictures I promised Andrew.

Me…underwater.

Our boat.
Andrew pointed out to me that the name of the boat was ironic.
Clever kid.

Part of the group on the boat paid to snuba…a combination of snorkeling and scuba diving.  I was too chicken to try.  Plain snorkeling was an adventure enough for me!  But, I did get a few good shots of them underwater.

A humpback whale that surfaced right next to our boat.
It was an escort whale that came between our boat and a mother whale with her newborn (tiny for a whale) calf.  Crazy crazy crazy!

On the way back to Maui.

Vacation

I went to Hawaii.

Lets just type that again…
I WENT TO FREAK SHOW HAWAII!!!!

Obviously, I don't get out much so this was kind of a big deal.
I left last Friday evening and got back late last night.
It was whirlwind of fun and craziness with the three best friends any girl could ever ask for!
I can't begin to write down all my adventures, but I'm hoping to try.

But until that happens, here are a few of my favorite things about Maui.

The beach right next to our condo.

Sacrament meeting with these beautiful girls!

The Luau.
The lei was real and the drink non-alcoholic.

The gluten free food.
It was readily available and delicious!

The sea turtles sleeping right outside our condo.
Don't worry, I didn't touch them!

The sunsets.

Snorkeling.
(I conquered a huge fear with some help from very patient friends.)

Deanna, Megan and Susan.
I adore these women and wish I could go on vacation with them every year, but my husband and children might protest a little! (wink wink)

Also, a little shout out to my husband and my mother.  Steve happily let me leave for week and took upon himself my job along side his job.  I came home to a spotless house, clean sheets, and five happy healthy kids.  My mother (look in the dictionary under 'saint' and you will find her picture) watched my kids during the days I was gone, picked them up from school, entertained them, gave Saylor a haircut, bathed the two littlest, and fed my entire family most nights.
I could have never left without these two entirely selfless people and I appreciate them to the end of the earth and back!

Post Christmas Vacation

This year our kids' Christmas break was a full 10 days out of school, and the way the calendar was, our kids had an entire week after Christmas free of responsibility.  It was pretty blissful.

Steve made the most of it and and had me take the kids to the office Monday morning for x rays and cleanings.  I left the four oldest with Steve and ran a few errands.
I came back to the office and found Saylor holding perfectly still in the pano.
Her boots on the stool made me laugh.   I was a married adult before I had my first pano xray.

Steve also gave Andrew his first dental assisting lesson at Carter's expense.
Carter "almost" drown a few times and Andrew enjoyed himself WAY too much.  Poor poor Carter.

A growth hormone trained nurse came to the house and instructed Carter on giving himself his growth hormone shots.
He's my hero and hasn't complained once.  He remembers his shots better than Steve and I do and has insisted on doing everything by himself.
Super Kid.
Grow baby Grow!

1. Yes, my laundry room always looks like this.
2.  Grady got himself ready and demanded to be taken outside.  Aren't you forgetting something Grady?  Whats missing??

Later in the day…now with pants on…eating a snack with a little light ready material, just like the older boys.

Best day this last week was Tuesday.  Steve and I celebrated our 17 year engagement anniversary by spending the entire day together just us.  My mom graciously took our kids starting at 6:30 am so we could start the day off in the temple.  It was awesome.
We then went out to breakfast and drove to Boise to talk with a home builder who builds here in Twin. Confession…I feel bipolar when it comes to the house building thing.  Hmmm. Maybe that's a sign.

After 6 years of loving them, we gave back the boys' bunk beds to their rightful owner, Uncle Spencer.  We were "keeping them safe" until he and his darling family moved back to Twin.  Luckily we got a screaming deal online at Costco and ordered two sets of bunk beds and two dressers.  Steve put them together New Years Eve.

My boys all now have their own beds and dressers.
(But Colby still does not have carpet.)
Saylor has cried and cried over not getting a bunk bed of her own.
The child has her own room with a queen size bed, two end tables and a HUGE dresser.  Poor little deprived child.
She told me the other day that I need to FIND someone for her to share a bunk bed with.  Maybe I'll put an add out on craigslist.  (nasty)

Christmas decorations and sadly my beloved Christmas cards came down.
The house feels so clean and clutter free, but I miss the cards.

Saturday we drove to Boise, this time with kids, and attended my nephew's Baptism.

 Colby, Wes, and AJ.
Three of the four Walker amigos that all have (will) be baptised in a 12 month period.  We missed you Dean!

We never got a Christmas Sunday picture.  We all had to be at the church at different times the week before Christmas, so we tried yesterday to make up for it…but without the tree.

As you can see in both pictures, Carter is doing his best to give a crusty face.  Thank you Carter.
Also…Andrew is totally on his tip toes.  He is NOT taller than Steve yet, or me with my heels on for that matter.  Nice try Andrew.

Their best maniacal laughs.
Colby wins in that department hands down…every time.

Last, but not least…or the least disgusting...
Christmas eve my family had an instagram toe war.
A choice few of us were blessed with ample room between our first and second toes.  (Those who were not are totally jealous.)
My eldest son put up a good fight.

As did my second son.

But they could not beat the master.

My brother Jon and my Dad may have beat me…but I won't admit that in public.
